Obituary for John P Griffin

AUSTINTOWN – Prayers will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Edward Brienz at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Canfield for John P. Griffin, 92, who passed away Monday morning.

John was born April 11, 1919, in Youngstown, a son of Thomas and Agnes Lyden Griffin.

He was a 1937 graduate of Sharon High School and entered into the Army serving in the European Theater for 2 1/2 years during World War II. John retired in 1982 from Republic Steel after many years of service. He was a member of St. Michael Church, the Youngstown American-Hungarian Club and the Canfield Rotary.

His wife, the former Evelyn L. Soltis, whom he married Nov. 24, 1945, passed away June 1, 1986.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Richard (Cheryl) Griffin of Columbus, Jacquelyn (Larry) Intihar of Zelienople, Pa. and Noreen (Tim) Brown of Woodruff, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary, Rachel, Kevin, Alex, Andrew and Alyson; and two great-grandchildren, Keean and Forest.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Griffin.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
