Obituary for Rose Marie Balmenti

ROSE MARIE BALMENTI BOARDMAN – Rose Marie Balmenti, 94, passed away on Nov. 26, 2010, at 1:30 a.m. Rosie, as she was affectionately known by even her grandchildren, was born in Youngstown on June 15, 1916, the daughter of Domenic Anthony and Philomena (Cook) DeMichele, the eldest of six children, whom she helped raise. She was a graduate of South High School and attended Youngstown College. She worked at G.M. McKelvey and Youngstown State University during her lifetime, but for the most part she was a mother and a homemaker. On Nov. 12, 1942, she married her husband, Dr. Victor Balmenti, an Army Officer stationed in New Orleans. She had three children who were the loves of her life. She was widowed early in life, her husband dying on Feb. 13, 1972. She committed her life to caring for her children and grandchildren. She financed or helped finance the education of her three children without the thought of her own lifestyle. Rose Marie was a member of the Junior Vivace Club and a charter member of the Holy Family Church. Rose Marie leaves to mourn her loss, her son, Dr. Phillip (Peggy) Balmenti; her daughter, Rita Balmenti Creed, with whom she made her home; son-in-law, Jack Murdoch; grandchildren, Phillip (Rachel) Balmenti, Christina (Drew) Burdette, Jacqueline Murdoch and Christina Hill. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Garrett Gilstrap, Gavin Gilstrap, Trenton Burdette, Phillip Victor Balmenti and Enzo Lee Balmenti, as well as sisters, Rita Monaco of Visalia, Calif. and Gloria Karas of New Port Richey, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter and shopping buddy, Victoria Murdoch; and brothers, Albert, Louis and Domenic Anthony DeMichele. Calling hours will be held at the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. There will be prayer at 9:15 a.m. on Monday at the Fox Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Family Church at 10 a.m. celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. William Connell. Our family acknowledges the concern and care of our mother’s physician, Dr. Thomas Detesco and also thanks the nurses and nurses aide’s at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman for giving our mother the best care possible in her final days.
