Obituary for John P Philibin

John Patrick Philibin BOARDMAN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at Saint Charles Church, celebrated by Father Philip Rogers, for John Patrick Philibin, 91, who passed away Thursday morning at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Philibin was born June 7, 1918 in Youngstown, the son of John V. and Martha McCutcheon Philibin, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of The Rayen School and served in the Army during World War II. He owned and operated Jet Cleaners on Youngstown-Poland Road. He worked many years as a stage hand at Stambaugh Auditorium. John was a member of Saint Charles Church. Besides his wife, the former Dorothy M. Bertin, whom he married Dec. 23, 1942, he leaves a daughter, Mary Ann (Richard) Dieter of Canfield; two sons, Edward (Brenda) Philibin of Las Vegas and John “Jack” (Donna) Philibin of Boardman; two sisters, Jane Grier of Hampton, Va. and Sally McGowen of Howland; eight grandchildren, William (Katie) Dieter, Susan Dieter, Jeff (Laurie) Dieter, Nichole Salopek, Patrick (Amy) Philibin, John (Kylee) Philibin, Christina (Jim) Newton and Michael Philibin; and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Noah, Anna, Ella and Nicholas. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Kelly and Mary Martha Reese. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
