Katherine "Kay" Marie Shotts, formerly of Messerly Road in Canfield, passed away at 1:50 PM Saturday, March 27, 2010 with her family by her side in Omni Manor Health Care Center following a battle with cancer. She was 89 years old.
Kay was born August 6, 1920 in North Lima the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Meltzer) Kellner and was a graduate of North Lima High School.
A homemaker, Mrs. Shotts was a member of the Old North Church in Canfield, where she was a former Deaconess, sang in the church choir and a member of its Golden Heirs Group. In recent years, she regularly attended Mahoning United Methodist Church with her daughter, Donna and her husband George. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
Kay was married on June 23, 1942 to Harold R. Shotts and they were married for 63 years until his passing on July 9, 2005.
A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Kay will be sadly missed by her five daughters Donna (George) Hageman of Youngstown, Janet (Eric) Anderson of Riverview, Michigan, Marjorie (Raun) Skyrm of Akron, Barbara (Craig) Maltby of Cuyahoga Falls and Cynthia (Kevin) Young of Brownsburg, Indiana; nine grandchildren Stephen (Kerry Wynn) Hageman, David (Beth Savage) Hageman, Scott (Meghan) Anderson, Laurie (Josh) Johnson, Carrie (Tim) Zielinski, Sara Maltby, Keith Maltby, Vanessa Young and Jessica Young and seven great grandchildren Conner and Owen Anderson, Emma Zelinski, Charles Hageman, Sadie Hageman, Walter Hageman and Caleb Johnson.
Besides her parents and husband, Kay was preceded in death by four brothers John, Fred, Karl and Walter Kellner and a sister Matilda Royer.
Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 5 until 8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown, Ohio, 44515.
A Funeral Service with the Dr. Rev. Brent Allen and Rev. Joyce Lawson will take place on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 1:30 PM in the funeral home.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Omni West and Omni Manor who lovingly cared for Kay.
