Obituary for John Bondar
JOHN S. BONDAR
YOUNGSTOWN – Prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart Of Mary Church for Mr. John S. Bondar, 81, who died Thursday morning at home after a brief and hard fought battle with cancer.
John was born Jan. 19, 1930, the son of Nick and Mary Vaarn Bondar.
He was a graduate of The Rayen School and served in the Korean War, serving with the Marine Corps 2nd Amphibian recon unit as a squad leader. John retired from General Motors in 1995 , as a tool and dye maker after 24 years and was a custodian at Immaculate Heart of Mary School for a number of years. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church since 1957 and was a member of the men’s renewal team. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 274 and the American Legion Post No. 301. He loved woodworking and was an avid Cleveland sport team fan.
John is survived by his wife, the former Amelia (Irene) Jannett, whom he married Aug. 3, 1952, at the Sacred Heart Church in Vineland, N.J.; a daughter, Deborah (Robert) Doinidis of Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Alfred (Beth) Bondar and John P. (Patti) Bondar, all of Youngstown; one brother, Paul Bondar of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, John, Scott and James Bodar, Dane Corpa and Melissa Bondar; and two great-grandchildren, Jonah Bondar and Jayden Messner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Catherine Libertyn, Mary Lou Berger, Fannie Stiles and Elizabeth Malkarski.
Friends may from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
