Raymond Earl Fullum
MAPLE HEIGHTS – Services will be Wednesday evening, Oct. 6, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home in Youngstown, for Mr. Raymond Earl Fullum, 90, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at Bedford Hospital in Bedford.
Mr. Fullum was born May 11, 1920, in Pittsburgh, a son of Earl and Mildred Ramsey Fullum.
He moved to Farrell in 1938, then to Youngstown in 1950 and then to Cleveland in 2002. He was a 1938 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School in Wilkinsburg, Pa. and attended Youngstown State University. While in Farrell, he was a member of the Greater Morris Chapel A.M.E. Church. He was a member of the Musician’s Union 86242.
Being a great musician and very capable of playing the organ, trumpet and trombone, Raymond played with several local bands, traveled the country with such greats as the Jimmy Coe Band out of Indianapolis, background with Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughn, Chester High, Elwood Moss, Roy Lyons, Joe Cooper and Del Sinchak. He had been past president of the Musician‘s Union and was the first Black to play in the Wilkinsburg High School Band. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Raymond had been employed with Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg as a press operator for 30 years.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his daughter, Yvonne Bridgitte (Lavell) Sudberry of Cleveland and two grandchildren, Alanna and Lavell Sudberry, both of Cleveland.
He was a foster parent and therefore leaves a host of foster children and grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Violet Ledbetter, whom he married Nov. 15, 1941, and who passed away Nov. 23, 1990.
