Obituary for Raymond L Austin

Raymond L. Austin BARBERTON – Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel for Raymond L. Austin, 88, formerly of Canfield, who passed away Saturday morning in Barberton Hospital. Ray was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Plymouth, Ohio, the son of John and Olive (Avery) Austin. He was a self-employed Auctioneer and was the co-founder of the Canfield Auto Auction. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Ray was a member of the Old North Church in Canfield, a former member of the Rotary Club of Canfield, a lifetime member of the National Auctioneers Association, and a past president of the Ohio Auctioneers Association. His wife, the former June Burr, whom he married Oct. 3, 1943, passed away Jan. 9, 1999. Ray leaves four sons, Ron Austin of St. Mary’s, Pa., Don Austin of Eastlake, J. Alfy (Karen) Austin of Terre Haute, Ind., and Randy (Susan) Austin of Akron; one sister, Edith (Bob) Cary of Ashtabula; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Sheeley; a brother, Edgar Austin; and a daughter-in-law, Melanie Austin. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon’s International in Ray’s name.
