WASHINGTONVILLE – Funeral services will be today, March 2, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 485 Redondo Road for Emily Jean Gries, 78, who died Sunday afternoon at Hospice House with her family by her side.
Emily was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Youngstown to the late Julius and Inez (Burkhart) Gunderson.
She was a 1949 graduate of Wilson High School and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube before starting her family. She was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and enjoyed helping with the Chicken and Roast Beef Dinners at the church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Bill E. Gries, whom she married May 1, 1952.
She leaves two sons, Brian Gries of Washingtonville and David Gries of Youngstown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Pastor Kenneth D. Kelly will be the officiant. Burial will be at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call one hour prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Professional arrangements have been entrusted to the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
