Obituary for Vera I Orr

Vera I. Orr LIBERTY – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Vera I. Orr, 89, who died Tuesday afternoon at Liberty Healthcare Center in Liberty. She was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Austintown, a daughter of Sam and Edith (Bishop) Schrum, and she resided in this area all of her life. She was a 1938 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. During the war, she worked at the Ravenna Arsenal. She also worked in the cafeteria at Fitch high School and in the kitchen at the former Glenview Manor Nursing Home. She had been currently attending the Boardman Baptist Church. She was very active in the 4H Club and she enjoyed upholstery and sewing. She married Richard M. Orr on Oct. 3, 1943, and he preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1997. She is survived by two sons, Dale E. (Bonnie) Orr of Austintown and John R. (Karen) Orr of Liberty. She also leaves behind six sisters, Doris Burkett of Canfield, Eileen Taylor of Greenford, Edith Kale of Florida, Geraldine Craig of Ellsworth and Imogene Yocum and Grace Dimick, both of Salem; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vern and Wilbur Schrum; and a sister, Charlotte Sisco. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
