Obituary for William O Grimm

WILLIAM O. ''BILL'' GRIMM SR AUSTINTOWN – William O. “Bill” Grimm Sr., 83, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at his home. He was the son of the late Walter A. and Marie A. (Schroder) Grimm. Bill was born May 1, 1927, in New Brighton, Pa. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bill served his country during World War II. He served for six years before being honorably discharged on Aug. 11, 1954. In 1988, Bill retired as a supervisor of the yard department at Ohio Edison. He worked for Ohio Edison for 40 years. Bill was a member of the Austintown Community Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed dancing, roller skating with his wife, doing yard work, boating and traveling. Bill was a real “handy man.” He had a passion for taking care of his cars. Bill will be missed by his wife of 64 years, the former Georgia R. Poulaillon, whom he married on Jan. 11, 1947; children William “Bill” O. (Ann Marie) Grimm Jr. of Cortland, Jeff W. (Terri) Grimm of Bend, Ore. and David L. (Lisa) Grimm of North Jackson; sisters Melva Jean Watson of Alliance and Doris M. Mason of La Mirada, Calif.; sister-in-law Rosie Grimm of Humble, Texas; grandchildren Rachel S. Grimm, Randy (Kristy) Grimm and Eric D. Grimm; great-granddaughters Selina R. Jones and Hailey R. Grimm; and nieces and nephews Vicki (Joe) Garnes, Doug Watson, Shawn Watson, Sharon Crubaugh, Janet (Gary) Teeters and Bobby (Annette) Grimm. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Robert A. Grimm; nephew Clifford Grimm; and niece Linda Beckhart. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, OH 44515. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Austintown Community Church with Pastor David Roberts officiating. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Bill’s name to the Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield Niles Road, Austintown, OH 44515.
