Obituary for Samuel Anania

SAMUEL ANANIA “Together Again” YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, preceded by a 9 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Samuel Anania, 80, who passed away Saturday morning Aug. 6, 2011, with his loving family by his side. Sam will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his big smile, and the love and compassion he showed to his family and friends. Sam was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Clarksburg, W.Va., the son of Domineck and Daisy (Marano) Anania. He was raised in Clarksburg and later moved to Youngstown. He was employed as a grocer, working for Loblaws, Fisher-Fazio, Valu-King and Giant Eagle, and he retired in June of 1986. Sam was a graduate of Victory High School in Clarksburg. Sam loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially playing with his grandchildren. Sam was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, during the Korean War, where he earned the rank of CS3 and served from 1950 until 1953. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, the former Carolyn Van Horn, whom he married on March 24, 1969, and who died Aug. 17, 2002. He leaves behind two sons, Gary (Ruth) Anania of Chicago, and Terry Anania of Mineral Ridge; five daughters, Sarah (Rick) Sause of Youngstown, Eulalie Gragorace of Greenville, Karen Anania of San Dimas, Calif., Jovanka (Roger ) Moore-Schnipke of Leipsic, and Theresa (Roger) Latham of Boardman; nine grandchildren, Kristin (Brad) Adair, Jimmy Sause, Rickey and Megan Sause, Nick Anania, Alyssa and David Moore, and Jessica and Derrick Latham; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Adair; five brothers, Russ (Pauline) Anania of Youngstown, Thomas (Glenna) Anania of Cincinnati, John (Iona) Anania of Orlando, Fla., Peter (Betty) Anania of Austintown, and Tony Anania of Youngstown; two sisters, Victoria Anania of Akron and Nancy (Jim) Tolbert of Yardley, Pa.; and his beloved pet cat, Daisy. Besides his parents and wife, Sam was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Anania; and a sister, Marie Karakiozis. Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Burial will take place at Green Haven Cemetery with full military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion >>
