Obituary for Virginia Mcferren

Virginia K. McFerren “Together Again” NORTH LIMA - Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at the Mahoning United Methodist Church, 2214 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown for Virginia K. McFerren, 90, formerly of Austintown, who died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at the Assumption Village in North Lima. Virginia was born Sept. 16, 1919, in East Palestine, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Grace Loschinsky Peirce. She received her nursing degree from City Hospital in Akron in 1941 and worked as a nurse in the infirmary at Oklahoma A.& M. College while her husband attended college. After returning to the area, she worked at St. Elizabeth Health Center, later as an industrial nurse for Wean United in Warren for nine years, where she retired. Virginia was a member of the Mahoning United Methodist Church, the Clotilda club and the Order of Eastern Star No. 278, Miriam chapter. Her husband, Bernard T. McFerren, whom she married Aug. 17, 1946, died June 14, 2008. She leaves two daughters, Mary Katherine (Russell) Toye of Avon and Patricia (David) Collins of Poland; four grandchildren, Kerri McTigue, Beth McTigue, Andy (Heidi) Toye and Christine Pratt; and three great-grandchildren, Hannah Pratt, Maxwell Pratt and Grady Toye. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth T. McFerren; a brother, Richard Peirce; and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Virginia Pratt. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The family would like to thank the staff at Assumption Village for the great care they had given Virginia the past two years and also to Hospice of the Valley for their care of Virginia in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of the Mahoning United Methodist Church. >>
