Obituary for Imogene McCracken

JEAN MCCRACKEN AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Jean McCracken, 90, who passed away Monday morning at her home. Jean was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Exline, Iowa, a daughter of the late David H. and Clara (Sietz) Kerby. Jean was a waitress for the Mural Room in Downtown Youngstown, retiring in 1970, and was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II, working for the defense plant in Rockford, Ill. She was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God on Glenwood Avenue and a fraternal member of St. George Croatian Home Lodge 66. Her husband, David L. McCracken, whom she married Sept. 6, 1958, passed away July 10, 1988. Jean will be sadly missed by her son, Jeffrey (Merri) McCracken of Austintown; four grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) McCracken, Chad (Marianna) Hillard, Josh (Irene) Hillard and Robert Hillard; and two great-grandchildren, Alayna M. McCracken and Caitlin Hillard. Besides her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan and Thomas Verlin Kerby; and a sister, Justine Rosenhack. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512, in Jean’s name. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
