Obituary for John Sybrant

JOHN A. SYBRANT BOARDMAN – A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman for John A. Sybrant 83, who died Tuesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. John was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Warren, a son of the late Arthur E. and Helen C. Davis Sybrant. He graduated from South High School and Michigan State (East Lansing) University. After graduating from college, he worked as a landscape architect for Terrace Gardens where he worked for many years, until he purchased Duncan Landscape. In the 70’s he started John A. Sybrant & Associates and continued to do landscape design until his death. He never considered it work, because he loved what he did. John was a private pilot and had learned to fly at Price Airport. He continued to fly independently until 10 years ago. He was a lifetime member of Western Star Lodge No. 21 F & AM and the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter No. 531. His wife, the former Maryellen “Corky” Miller, whom he married Sept. 9, 1950, died Nov. 5, 2006. He leaves his daughter, Janel Donahue of Boardman; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Phil) Rhodes and Megan Donahue. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to John’s beloved Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter No. 531, 12924 West Calla Road, Salem 44460.
