Stefan Marczyszyn
YOUNGSTOWN - Stefan Marczyszyn, 84, of the city’s west side, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 25, 2010, at his home following an extended illness.
Stefan was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Ukraine, a son of the late Ilko and Anna Marczyszyn, and came to America and Youngstown in 1951.
He worked as a burner and a craneman for U.S. Steel, Ohio Works, for 28 years, retiring in 1980. Previously, he worked for Republic Steel and for Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Brier Hill Works.
Stefan was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown, the Ukrainian Congress Committee, and of SUMA.
He was a carpenter, cabinet-maker, and a skilled craftsman who enjoyed wood-working, especially after the project was completed. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, and playing chess.
Mr. Marczyszyn leaves his beloved wife, Maria Antonczak Marczyszyn, whom he married Nov. 25, 1967; his daughter, Anna Marczyszyn of Elizabeth City, N.C.; his mother-in-law, Anna Antonczak of Niles; and a brother-in-law, Russell Antonczak of Niles.
Stefan will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Marczyszyn was preceded in death by a brother, Metody Marczyszyn; two sisters, Eva Michajlechko and Anna Kushinicz; his father-in-law, Fedor Antonczak; and a brother-in-law, Steve Antonczak.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, where a prayer service will take place at 4:30 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1, at the funeral home.
