Obituary for Paul A Jones.

Paul Arthur Jones MINERAL RIDGE – Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel for Paul Arthur Jones, 73, who passed away Tuesday morning at his home. Paul was born June 6, 1936, in Youngstown, and was the son of the late George and Irene (Price) Jones Goist. Paul had been employed for 21 years in production control at Wean United and most recently had worked for W.C.I. Steel as a foreman in the B.O.F. and maintenance planning department until his retirement in 2007. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Niles. Paul was a 1954 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force, during the Korean War. He was a musician and played in the U.S.A.F. Glenn Miller 604th Band while stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., and also played in the U.S.A.F. Far East Command Band while stationed for two years in Tokyo, Japan. He played the bass trombone. The highlight of his service career was being selected to play in the Japan-American Symphony. Paul was a member of the Niles-McKinley Lodge No. 794 F.& A.M., Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown, Niles York Rite Chapter, Council and Commandry, Diamond Club District 2 O.E.S., Opal Chapter No. 181 O.E.S in Cortland and Past Patron in 1980, of the Ida McKinley Chapter No. 229 O.E.S. in Niles. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 888. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fly fishing with the Charles Reagle family in Salmon, Idaho, and hunting at the “Paul Reagle Farm” in Lottsville, Pa. Paul was an avid camper and enjoyed restoring his John Deere antique tractor. As a lifelong resident, he loved the Mineral Ridge community. Paul served in the Mineral Ridge Volunteer Fire Department as a lieutenant and was president and trustee of the Fireman’s Social Club. Paul is survived, loved and cherished by his wife of 49 years, the former Marjorie Brown, whom he married Aug. 27, 1960, and his cousin, Peggy Timber of Sunny Vale, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, John E. Goist. He also leaves his beloved pets, Megan, Katie, Penny and Patsy. Paul was especially close to his friends of 50 years, Matthew and Mary Jane Blair. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today, where the Masonic Lodge will hold a service at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Green Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be given for his service to his country by the American Legion Honor Guard.
