Obituary for Oscar H Burkey

OSCAR H. BURKEY CANFIELD – Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel for Oscar H. Burkey, 87, who passed away Monday morning in Austinwoods Nursing Home. Oscar was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Struthers, the son of Herman A. and Hazel M. (Sipe) Burkey. He retired March 1, 1988, from General Motors Lordstown Plant, where he worked for 20 years as a pipe fitter. Oscar was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Technician 5th Grade, where he was part of the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the UAW Local 1112, and the Masonic Lodge Western Star No. 21. His wife, the former Betty J. Tutor, whom he married Feb. 14, 1958, passed away June 13, 2008. Oscar leaves two sons, Richard and Bruce Burkey, both of Las Vegas; two grandsons, Ronald and Richard; one niece and several nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Oscar was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Burkey, who died in action during World War II, Harry and Leonard Burkey. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and again from 10 to 10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in Oscar’s name.
