Obituary for Leopold Kren

Leopold 'Leo' Kren AUSTINTOWN – Leopold “ Leo” Kren, 77, passed away at 8:48 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Intensive Care Unit of St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Mr. Kren was born on July 23, 1932 in Yugoslavia, the son of the late Johann and Katrina (Gyarmati) Kren and came to the United States in 1951. Leo worked for the International Paper Company for 20 years, before its closing and then retired in 1994, after working for 20 years as a high lift operator in the Lordstown Fabrication Plant of General Motors. Leo also enjoyed working for the family business, The Miller Marine at Lake Milton with his son, Hansi, for more than 30 years. Leo was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Saxon Club. He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed spending time at the Marina on Lake Milton, fishing, boating and most especially, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter who he affectionately called “Princess.” Leo is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Maria Schuster, whom he married Dec. 6, 1952; a daughter, Gerta (Thomas) Shilling of New Philadelphia; a son, John “Hansi” Kren of the home; two grandchildren, Lisa (Aaron) Fockler of New Philadelphia and Tommy Shilling of Johnson City, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Fockler; a sister, Anna (Gearhart) Rossiwald of Germany; and by his best friend and canine German Shepherd, “Buddy”. Leo was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Martin Kren, who died fighting in World War II and Joseph Kren, who died shortly after fighting in World War II. Calling hours will take place on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where a funeral service will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association, 1815 W.
