Obituary for Julieann L Miles

JULIEANN L. MILES SALEM – Julieann L. Miles, 62, of 2379 Tanglewood Drive, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at the Hospice House in Poland of a brain tumor. Mrs. Miles was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., a daughter of William and Julia Lawall Lane. Mrs. Miles earned her Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree from Youngstown State University and she obtained a second Master’s Degree from Westminster College. She taught high school English and Speech at the Salem High School and was a Martha Holdens Jennings Scholar. She also was an elementary and middle school counselor for the Columbiana Exempted Schools for 22 years, retiring in 2008. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem, the Ohio Education Association and the Salem Senior Mothers’ Club. She was a past member of the Salem Junior Mothers’ Club, the National Education Association, the Columbiana Education Association, and the Ohio School Counselor’s Association. She was preceded in death by her father, William Lane and a grandmother who was a part of their family home, Elizabeth Lawall. Besides her mother, Julia Lane, of North Lima, she is survived by her husband, Robert A. Miles, whom she married Aug. 21, 1971; a daughter, Meredith Miles of Columbus; a son, Michael Miles of Akron; and a sister, Liz Lane of Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem, with the Reverend Robert Edwards officiating. Entombment will be at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown. Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
