Obituary for Giovanna Abbattista

GIOVANNA ABBATTISTA NEW JERSEY – There will be funeral services at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio, celebrating the Mass for Giovanna Abbattista, 95, who passed away early Wednesday morning, Dec. 1, at Arcadia Nursing Home in New Jersey. Giovanna, formerly of North Lima, was born March 13, 1915, in Italy, the daughter of Anthony and Silvia DeCandia. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where she was a life member of Mothers of the Crucifix. Giovanna was a loving mother and grandmother to her family. Her husband, Mario Abbattista, whom she married Oct. 31, 1938, passed away Nov. 4, 1982. Giovanna will always be remembered by her five children, Irene (Vito) Minervinni of New Jersey, Silvia (Nick) LaRocca of North Lima, Leonard (Eva) Abbattista of New Middletown, Anthony (Nancy) Abbattista of Chicago and Sabina (Anthony) Cook of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, who passed away as a young child; and her brothers, Mauro, Corrado and Nicoloantonio. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman, where the Mothers of the Crucifix will have a 5 p.m. prayer service
