Mildred P. Dietz
GIRARD – Born on April 5, 1923, in Girard, Mildred P. Dietz, 86, died on March 2, 2010, at Heritage Manor in Youngstown, after suffering from cancer.
Mildred was born in Girard and graduated from Girard High School in 1941. She was a waitress at Youngstown’s downtown Woolworth Luncheonette counter and during World War II, she was a crane operator at U.S. Steel Corp. She was then employed for 10 years at Aeroquip Republic Rubber in Youngstown, where she met her husband, Aloysius C. Dietz (deceased).
She was active in politics and held the position of Precinct Committeewoman in Ward 4-D in Girard for 23 years. Later in life, she worked as a pastry-desert baker at the Globe Restaurant in Hubbard for five years before being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. Mildred was a fabulous baker, specializing in cookies and pies and was a skilled seamstress. She loved bowling, crocheting and was an overall craft maven.
She was a member of St. Rose Church and a member of the Girard Multi-Generational Center, both in Girard. She was also active as a breast cancer survivor in the Relay for Life organization.
Mildred was the wife of Aloysius C. Dietz; daughter of Anna and Peter Morosko; and sister of Helen DeCenso and Walter P. Morosko Sr. (all deceased).
She will be missed by her children, Elaine Griffith of Columbus, Larry Dietz of Girard and Lisa Dietz Rusoff of New York City; additionally, her stepchildren, Arthur Dietz of Girard, Adrian Dietz of Youngstown and Charlene Banks of Maryland (Aloysius “Sonny” Jr., deceased); nieces, Jude Signorillo of Girard and Alice Franklin of Liberty; her nephew/godchild, Walter Morosko Jr. of California; as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard, with prayers at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
A funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Girard.
Burial will be at Green Haven Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Girard Multi-Generational Center in Mildred’s name.
