Obituary for Russell E Sr. Martin

RUSSELL E. MARTIN SR MINERAL RIDGE – There will be services at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Four Mile Run Christian Church for Russell E. Martin Sr., 91, formerly of Austintown, who died Friday evening at Vista Center at the Ridge. Mr. Martin was born March 21, 1922, in Youngstown, a son of John H. and Anna M. Stacy Martin. Russ graduated from North Jackson High School and then served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army with the 77th Infantry Division. He worked for Wonder Bread and then for 30 years at Fitzsimmons Steel until 1980, then he finished his working career at Bliss Manufacturing. Russ was a member of the church, where he had served as a deacon. He belonged to the former Meander Lodge F.& A.M. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Youngstown and was a life member of Trias/Miriam Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. He had served as Worthy Patron of Trias Chapter. Russ enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping. He leaves his children, Russell E. (Janis) Martin Jr. of Berlin Center, Ronald E. (Terri) Martin of Marianna, Fla., Dale L. (Eileen) Martin of Austintown, Aneda (Robert) Schaeffer of Austintown, Darla (Dave) Cover of Clark Lake, Mich., and Beverly (Jim) Schaeffer of Peoria, Ariz.; his 12 grandchildren; and his 10 great-grandchildren. Russ’ wife of 61 years, the former Betty Wehnes, whom he married Jan. 19, 1946, died Oct. 3, 2007. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, John, Bob, and Harold Martin and his sisters, Amy Mansell and Delores Bailey. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., prior to the service at church.
