Obituary for Sean Michael Halpin

Sean M. Halpin honorer

In memory of their son Sean, Lawrence and Susan Stemko have established the Sean M. Halpin, Esquire Memorial Scholarship Fund. Sean a 1986 graduate died on 7/12/2004 at the age of 35.

Sean was an extremely active and involved student at Kutztown taking part in the band, chorus, pop group, school musicals and class play as well as being a member of student council and the honor society.

Sean's mother Susan wants to honor her son's memory with an annual award to be presented to a graduating senior with similar interests. The recipient, in addition to meeting academic guidelines must be involved in the high school music department, such as the band and theatrical shows. The recipient must enter a two or four year undergraduate college or university.

After Kutztown, Sean graduated cum laude from LaSalle University where he was the president of his class. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, graduating in 1993. He began his career as an associate in the commercial litigation department of Reed Smith, Philade1phia and was elevated to a full partner status in 2003.

Friends and colleagues remember Sean as a skilled commercial litigator with tremendous dedication to public interest work. In 1994, Sean was elected to a three year term on the Philadelphia Bar Associations Young Lawyers Division. In 2001, Sean received an award from the Philadelphia Bar Association in recognition of exceptional efforts on behalf of the indigent and disadvantaged.

While keeping a busy schedule, Sean still found time to attend classes at Georgetown University Law Center, where he was seeking an LLM in intemational law, all this while pursuing his passion for Phillies baseball, German, tennis lessons, daily trips to the gym and conducting daily lunch hour Bible study sessions at Reed Smith.

A colleague remembered Sean as "extremely intelligent and sensitive with a good sense of humor. He tried to cram as much as possible into each day and that is really the lesson of his life." No question, Sean Halpin was a man on the move who accomplished much in his short life.
