Obituary for Carol A. Turkington

Carol Ann Turkington, 55, died Dec. 22, 2007 in her home in Cumru Township. She was the wife of George Michael Kennedy. Born in York, Ms. Turkington was a daughter of the late Robert and Mabel Turkington. A highly regarded professional writer, she wrote more than 65 books for publishers including Prentice-Hall; McGraw Hill; Facts on File, Inc.; Stewart, Tabori & Chang; and Barnes & Noble. Her work has been published in magazines, including Time, Redbook, Psychology Today, New Woman, Modern Bride, Parents, The New York Times Syndicate, Vogue, and the Discovery Channel magazine. Her editorial clients included the American Red Cross, Hallmark, naturalist Jane Goodall, Nestlé Foods and many physicians and psychologists. A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Ms. Turkington worked as a newspaper reporter, editor and photographer; a medical writer and editor for Duke University Medical Center; and as senior writer in clinical psychology for the American Psychological Association’s publication, the Monitor. She was a longtime member of the American Society of Authors and Journalists, and a volunteer at the Lancaster Country Day School. In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by a daughter, Kara Aislinn Kennedy, at home, and a sister, Barbara Turkington of Weare, New Hampshire. Her Funeral Service will be held 1:30 Thurs at the Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington Cemetery, 2900 State Rd.
