Obituary for Eileen Meade Carey

CAREY Mrs. Eileen M. Carey, previously of 29 Murray St., died Monday at The Hilltop Health Care. She was the wife of the late Jeremiah J. Carey. Born in Ansonia on August 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the the late James and Katherine (Malumphy) Mead. She was a Communicant of the Church of the Assumption, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, graduate of the Assumption School and the Ansonia High School. Mrs. Carey was a hair dresser for the Charles and Esther Beauty Salon in Seymour and then owned her own salon in Shelton, retiring from King's Department Store of Seymour in the general merchandise department. Eileen was a member of the Charters Hose Ladies Auxiliary, an active member of the Democratic Party in Ansonia and helped with obtaining absentee ballots for the elderly to vote on election day. She was the founding member and president of the Ansonia Senior Club for many years. Survivors are her daughters, Kathleen C. Martin of Bath, Maine, Elizabeth J. Weis of Dallas, Texas and Eileen Carey Bennett of Milford; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Paul and Henry Mead. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 N. CLiff St., Ansonia to the Church of the Assumption for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
