Obituary for John J. Detuerk MD

Dr. John J. Detuerk, 87, of 10150 N.Ocean St., Citrus Springs, Fla., formerly of Philadelphia, died Sunday in Brentwood Health Care Center, Lecanto, Fla. Detuerk, whose father was from Kutztown, donated land for the Kutztown Medical Center at Noble Street and Trexler Avenue. He was the husband of Constance (Baker) Detuerk. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary B, (Burien) Detuerk.

Born in Erie, he was a son of the late Dr. John K. and Georgia A, (Randolph) Detuerk. A thoracic surgeon, Detuerk was chief of surgery at Methodist Hospital, Philadelphia, retiring in 1977. After retiring, he served on the staff of Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center until 1990

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia.
Detuerk is also survived by two sons, Allison V. Detuerk, Everett, Wash., and John Detuerk, Ogallala, Neb. and three daughters: Ann (Detuerk) Maud, Odessa, Texas; Mary K. Detuerk, London, England and Liz (Detuerk) Ghadar, Washington, D.C.
Other survivors include three stepsons: Thomas Ford, Citrus Springs; and Charles and Keith Ford, both of Coatesville. Also surviving are two brothers, James, Erie, and George D., Glendora, Calif. a sister, Barbara (Detuerk) Vogel, Bradenton, Fla. and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ellen Detuerk. Services wlll be Thursday at 10:30 a. m. in Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home Inc., Kutztown. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.
