Obituary for ETHEL LEA DEEVER

Ethel (GG) Deever, 90, died peacefully on Thursday March 9th, 2023 at her home. Ethel was born on February 7th, 1933 to Dennis and Madalon (Posson) Shaw in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ethel was devoted to and loved her family dearly. She was the happiest when she was surrounded by those she loved. Ethel found delight in supporting her children through being a Cub Scout leader and involved in PTA. As her children grew and had families of their own, Ethel was enamored by her grandchildren and was blessed with caring for and doting on them. Ethel had many great-grandchildren whom she adored and spent time participating in crafts, baking, and watching them spend the summers outdoors.  GG always had a radiant smile while watching the children play and grow.

Ethel took great pride and joy in crafting. Ethel especially loved designing clothes for dolls, creating her own patterns for dolls, stuffed animals, and even jewelry. Ethel was an enthusiastic learner who took on new challenges in learning a new skill to implement into her work. Ethel created the most magical designs and took delight in gifting these works of art to those she loved. Ethel enjoyed using her talent to teach others to sew and craft as well. Ethel not only used her creativity in design, she was also an avid writer creating poems and stories that transported one to enchanted worlds and filled those she loved with encouragement and love. Ethel always took the time to write a beautiful prayer for those she held dear in any greeting card she sent, ensuring the receiver always felt special and cared for not only by her but also by God.

Ethel immersed herself with the beauty of nature and took much delight in flowers, a warm sunny day, and trying to spot any hummingbirds, ladybugs, or butterflies. Ethel found the outside world to be dazzling and was at peace when she was able to take in the magnificent landscape of natural beauty.

Ethel is survived by her children; Kenny (Esta) Deever, Bob (Joni) Deever, Debbie (Gail) Gustafson, Carla (Gary) Ihle, and Marty (Jackie) Deever; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brother Walter; sister Denise; and many other family members.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, grandson Trevor, and great-granddaughter Adalyn.
