Obituary for John Francis McMinn Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 7:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for John Francis McMinn, Jr. age, 84, who passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at his residence in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

A private inurnment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Reverend Chris Blanchard, retired Pastor of Covenant United Methodist Church, will officiate at the services.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 4:00 PM until time of services.

Survivors include his wife, Roseanne Gauthier Theriot McMinn; two daughters, Vicki McMinn Delhomme and her husband, Danny and Sharon Louise McMinn; one stepdaughter, Anne Theriot Birnkammer and her husband, Georg; three grandchildren, Brandon David Burleigh, Dr. Lauryn Michelle Burleigh, PhD., and Cameron Joseph Delhomme; and; one sister, Charlotte McMinn LeBlanc and her husband, Mike; four step-grandchildren, Timothy Delhomme, Brady Delhomme, Joe Theriot, and Tom Theriot; and the mother of his two daughters, Rose Mary Butcher Queen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Naomi Louise Huckabay McMinn Moore and John Francis McMinn, Sr.; and his stepsons, Robert Louis Theriot and Daniel Z. Theriot.

John Francis McMinn, Jr. was a native of Castor, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for most of his life. He was a Veteran of military service and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy Reserves. Mr. McMinn worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and Atlantic Richfield Co. for many years before his retirement. He played Jet Team football at Lafayette High School and enjoyed camping and fishing at Bayou Dularge.

He was a collector of Civil War memorabilia, arrowheads and also many antiques. You could often find him puttering around his shop with his tools and refinishing antiques. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in sports and cherished the time he spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by all.
