Obituary for Ethel Paxson

Ethel Paxson formerly of Mount Laurel, NJ died in her home in Bel Air, Maryland on March  4, 2023, just days after celebrating her 93rd birthday with her family.

Ethel was born in NYC, and later moved to Bergenfield, NJ where she graduated from high  school at the age of 16. Ethel married Bill Smith in 1952 and in 1959 they moved to the  new town of Levittown, NJ now known as Willingboro, to raise their children.

Ethel was a stay-at-home mom when her children were young, and an active member of  the Reformed Church of Willingboro. Ethel later joined the workforce, working at  Rancocas Valley Hospital, and then the Neurological Center in Willingboro until her retirement.

Ethel surprised her children by eloping with her second husband, George Paxson in  1991. Ethel and George lived for many years in Mount Laurel, entertaining their  grandchildren, before relocating to Maryland to be close to her daughters.

Ethel’s quick wit and dry sense of humor will be greatly missed by her four children,  Barbara Tims (David), of Abingdon, MD., Nancy Landolf (Francis) of Baltimore, MD.,  Lauren Gillihan (John) of La Mesa, CA., and William Smith Jr. (Melissa) of McDonough, GA,  her step-children, George Paxson Jr. (Patti), Diane Generale (Bob), her 17 grandchildren,  and eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Vets (DAV) or the Maryland  Food Bank.
