Obituary for James Bruce Gilmour

James B. "Jim" Gilmour, age 64 of Franklin Park, died Monday evening surrounded by his wife and children. Jim had endured treatment of prostate cancer for over two years. He was the son of the late George and Janet (Wilson) Gilmour; beloved husband to Carol (Huntress) Gilmour; loving father to Jeff (Alexandra Gribizis), Kelly (fiancé Nick Audette), and Kim Gilmour. Grandfather to Jamie Gilmour. Brother of Tom (Cindy) Gilmour, John (Sarah) Gilmour, Doug (Susan) Gilmour, and Jean (John) Nowak.  Jim attended Cornell University where he met Carol in the marching band. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. Professionally, Jim worked in a variety of industries, from chemistry of gas and water purification to electricity production and the associated environmental control systems. Jim enjoyed singing bass in his church choirs where he was well-loved for his humorous comments in the back row.  As an avid rower Jim became a core member and treasurer of Pittsburgh Rowing Club. He regularly trained, raced, and dined with his team members, even purchasing his own single scull that he named "Jim's Clarinet." After retirement Jim picked up tuba again to join his wife, friends, and in-laws in local bands and the Windjammers Unlimited circus band. True to form, Jim found his tuba a particularly good method to scare away deer from the backyard. Jim especially enjoyed traveling to Ontario, Canada, to vacation and fish with his siblings, passing his love of quality time on the lake on to his children. In recent years, Jim and his wife expanded their travel horizons through study tours in Europe.  Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and delighted in his grandson, Jamie. He gave of himself fully to those that he loved and will be missed every day.
