Obituary for Robert Frantz Mick

Long-time Acadiana resident Robert Franz Mick (Bobby as his mom called him and many knew him) passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the age of 76. Over the past several years he battled many health issues and most recently was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 12:00 noon in La Chapelle de Martin and Castille, 330 St. Landry St., Lafayette, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed from 9:00 AM until the time of services at noon.

Pastor Paul Neel of Our Saviors Church will be officiating.

Interment will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery following the services.

Robert was born in Schweinfurt, Germany on July 8, 1946. He traveled to the United States via the USS General Maurice Rose on October 26,1958 where his boat arrived in New York City. He graduated from the American School in Chicago, Illinois and then went on to join the United States Navy December 26, 1965. After serving his country Robert continued his studies at Spartan School of Aeronautics receiving several diplomas in Airline Service Mechanics.

He was married to Mary Lela Bonnet on May 27, 1972 for thirty eight years until she herself lost her courageous battle with breast cancer and was called home on February 2, 2001.

Robert worked as a lead mechanic for PHI Inc. for forty years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and advocating for Veterans Rights with his fellow veterans of American Legion Post 241.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons Billy Mick and his wife Billie Mick, Jarrett Mick; his sister Roberta Hatch; his god-children, Colleen Begnaud and Jennifer Martin Taylor and many loved ones and friends who will miss his canny jokes and dry humor.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lela (Bonnet) Mick, mother Rosa Mick and father Billy W. Mick.

Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be Billy Mick, Jarrett Mick, Greg Symes, Allen Bonnet, Quinton Istre, and Toby Begnaud.

The family of Robert Mick wishes to thank the American Legion Post 241, Heart of Hospice, Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana, MD Anderson, and Amedysis Home Heath for the utmost care during his illness.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to American Legion Post 241, 1501 LA 728-8, Lafayette, LA 70501.
