Lewis Thompson “Tom” McMullen III

On Saturday, November 26, 2022, Lewis Thompson (Tom) McMullen, loving father, passed away in his home at the age of 78.

Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 21, 1944, to Lewis and Maxine McMullen. Growing up in Oak Park with his younger sister Patricia “Pat” McMullen, Tom enjoyed basketball, baseball, football, ice hockey, swimming, and indoor track. He graduated in 1961 from Oak Park River Forest High School and went on to study computer science at Wright Junior College. He married Barbara Ann Barber in 1964 in Lisle, Illinois Their daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Kathleen McMullen, born on September 7, 1968.

Tom had a long career in information technology, working for Blue Cross Blue Shield Maryland for close to 50 years, heading up the governmental systems, and later serving as Vice President of Information Technology, Medicare Division. During his career, he traveled extensively setting up and servicing BC/BS systems. Known to be “wicked smart”, Tom kept current with the latest technology and worked as a consultant well into his retirement years.

Tom was incredibly likable and known for his kind, considerate, and compassionate spirit, generosity, and quick wit. He had a great passion for food, especially chocolate chip cookies (CCCs) and deep-dish Chicago pizza. Tom loved sports and remained loyal to his hometown Chicago Cubs, his daughter’s alma mater Ohio State Buckeyes, and his adopted home’s Baltimore Ravens.

Tom was survived by his daughter Cindy Aggson (Roger) and three grandsons, Riley, Nicholas, and Zack, his sister Pat Cascio (Joseph) and four nieces, Nicole, Robin, Sunny, and Elisha, and nine great nieces and nephews. His death was preceded by his parents Lewis T. and Maxine McMullen II, his first wife Barbara Ann Barber, and wife Diana McMullen.

His burial service was held on Dec. 9, 2022 (his mother’s birthday) on a beautiful sunny day at Highview Memorial in Fallston, Maryland.
