Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend John Cannon, Senior Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will officiate the service.

Nancy Haas Kimbrough was born on August 9, 1930 in Opelousas, La. She lived in Opelousas and New Orleans during her youth and early marriage to John A. Carr, who passed away in 1980. She owned and operated Nancy Carr’s Kindergarten in the early 1960’s where she used her talents to nurture several classes of young Opelousans with early learning and foundational skills. Many of these still remember “Miss Nancy” as a loving, kind and always fun kindergarten teacher. She was active in the Opelousas Garden Club, Opelousas Mardi Gras Association, and when her daughters were in grade school, she was active in the PTA, always holding an office and working to make a difference. She also worked for several years as Executive Secretary for the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce where she used her social skills and wide network of business owners and professionals to help promote the city she loved so much. In 1971, she married Dr. Thomas Kimbrough and moved to Lafayette. She became active in the Lafayette Parish Medical Auxiliary, as well as the Galvez Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Nancy was an amazing cook and got tremendous pleasure preparing meals for her family. She also loved to travel, but her real joy was watching her grandchildren grow up. She rarely missed a game where one of her grandchildren played, even riding the team bus to attend a basketball tournament.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Kathryn Hopkins Haas, her father, Nathan Lewis Haas, her husband, Dr. Thomas A. Kimbrough and stepdaughter, Pamela Kimbrough Ayers. She is survived by her sister, Mary Kathryn Haas Scott, her loving daughters, Kiki Carr (Rick) Frayard, Judge Marilyn (Jack) Castle and Joan Dubuisson all of Lafayette, stepdaughter Penny Kimbrough (Lucius) Butts of Baton Rouge, as well as her grandchildren, Dr. Nancy Dubuisson (Zach) Barker of Colorado Springs, CO, Ryan Castle (Kate) of Baton Rouge, Katie Frayard (Denny) Culbert of Lafayette, Nick Dubuisson III (Brittany) of Lafayette, and Lauren Ann Castle of Los Angeles, as well as 4 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her loyal caregivers, Debra Breaux, Dewanda Carter, and Christine Bernard, who were always patient and kind and made her last days so much better.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana.
