Rita “Gayle” Begnaud Comeaux of Lafayette was born May 5, 1941, and rejoined the Lord in heaven on Monday, October 24, 2022.

Gayle was predeceased by the love of her of her life and husband of 56 years, Glenn Edward Comeaux, her oldest daughter, Michelle Comeaux, her mother and father, Harry and Beulah Begnaud, and two sisters, Nancy Lyons and Beverly Begnaud.

She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Krieg (Ray), Laurie D’Aquin (Rick), Yvonne Houpy (David), three grandsons, Blake Domingue (Kristen), Richard D’Aquin III, and Jacob Houpy, three granddaughters, Alexandra Domingue (Cody), Caroline El Cheikh (Raed), and Meghan Houpy, four great-granddaughters (Monroe and Mignon Domingue, Eleanor and Celine El Cheikh), two great-grandsons (Maverick and Riggs James), three sisters, Margaret Toups, Virginia Piper (Ned) and Patricia Abshire (Ricky) and two brothers, John Begnaud and Alex Begnaud as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and her beloved fur baby, Riley.

Gayle loved to live life to the fullest with Glenn. They raised their four children, traveled the world, made great life-long friends, and was always open to entertaining family and friends. She was also a member of City Club and Le Triomphe where she enjoyed socializing at every event they attended.

As a devout Catholic, Gayle spent many days as a lay minister serving communion to the sick at local hospitals and nursing homes, frequently prayed in rosary groups, and was very active in community, church organizations as well as card groups and book clubs.

In more recent years, she enjoyed retired life in False River where she and Glenn spent much of their time hosting family and friends at their camp while enjoying long boat rides with beautiful sunsets. She looked forward each year to celebrating her birthday with Cinco De Mayo festivities, enjoyed evenings out at La Fonda, loved cooking for her entire family, and savored her relaxation time at the beach every chance she got. These are just a few of the special times and memories that we will forever hold near and dear to our hearts.

Thank you to all who cared for her in these final years as she battled Alzheimer’s with Dementia and Parkinson’s. For each of you who touched her heart and ours throughout this journey, we are so very grateful.

Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be Blake Domingue, Richard D’Aquin III, David Houpy, Jacob Houpy, Ray Krieg and Raed El Cheikh.
