Obituary for MAUDE NORA BURKHART

Maude Nora Burkhart, 93, was ushered into the presence of the Lord, Wednesday, July 20. She was met by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, husband Bob, and many friends. Visitation will be @ 10am, Wednesday July 27, at Hamiltons’s by Highland Memory Gardens, service @ 11, followed by burial.

Maude is survived by her sister DeLaine Needles, daughter Mary (Rob) Larsen, sons, Bob (Kathy) Burkhart, and Ron (Helen) Burkhart, 10 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

In December of 1959, she made the most important decision a person can make. She, with her husband Bob, asked Jesus to forgive them from their sins, and He became their personal Savior. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only son, that whoever BELIEVES in Him, will NOT perish, but have everlasting life.” Romans 10:9,10 “IF you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” This is what made the difference in why they are spending eternity in heaven today. Although Maude was a very good person, it was never about her works. She recognized that Jesus paid her sin debt, and there was nothing she could personally do to save herself. We are forever grateful for that decision and the impact it had on our lives and our children. She had lived at Luther Park Trinity Center for the last 3 1/2 years. Many of the workers there were extremely kind and patient with her. She will be missed by all her loved ones and friends, but the separation is only temporary for all who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:8-10 “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must ALL appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that EACH of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” Mom’s greatest desire would be to point people to her Savior, even though at times she fell short, humanly speaking. She enjoyed serving the Lord and attending Grandview Park Baptist Church for many years, where they had many lifelong friends. In their later years, they enjoyed fellowshipping with the folks at Norwoodville Baptist Church. She spent summers canning and freezing produce from their garden, making apple cider, and extracting honey from their bee hives. She thoroughly enjoyed the many hours spent with grandchildren, great grandchildren throughout the years, and their many dogs and grand dogs. A highlight of every summer was spending a week at Iowa Regular Baptist Family Camp, in Clear Lake.
