Obituary for CHARLES JAMES GUTTILLA JR

Charles James Guttilla, Jr, was a proud Husband, Father, Pap, Brother, Cuz, Uncle and Friend. Chuck was born in Pittsburgh to Charles J Guttilla Sr and Elsie Lisotto Guttilla with their daughters Patricia and Roseann on February 18,1948. He left this world on April 23, 2022 at age 74. Chuck leaves behind his loving wife, Linda; three children Ellie, Charlie and Michael (Lily); and two grandchildren, Jackson James and Lillian Marie Guttilla. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, John Yohman, Michelle Baker, Amy Day, Tony & Dana Nath and Michael Nath. We would also like to recognize our extend families: The Abbotts, The Lisottos, The Romitos and the ‘66ers.

Chuck attended Corpus Christi Elementary school and graduated from Central Catholic before attending Youngstown University and finishing at Duffs Business Institute. At the age of 19, he began running the family long-haul residential trucking company, Plymouth Van Lines. This sparked his entrepreneurial spirit as he taught himself programming in the early '70s. Chuck was a pioneer in the Pittsburgh technology revolution including being a proud early adopter of Apple technology and a certified Beta tester. Chuck even befriended one of the Apple founders along the way. With those skills, he started his own Financial & Consulting business: Pennsylvania House, LTD and forged the way for today’s Chief Technology Officer.

Chuck was a true renaissance man. He loved learning new things and sharing his knowledge. In his younger years, he avidly pursued hunting, fishing, dog training, photography, and motorcycles. He devoted himself to coaching his kids sports, Boy Scouts, camping, cooking (really crazy foods) and baking bread with his family. In his own time, he also enjoyed knitting, reading and listening to music. His passion for the past few years has been growing fig trees from the roots of his grandparents’ tree in Larimer. True to his trademark curiosity, he even began dabbling with cryptocurrencies as he became fascinated with the technology and potential impact.

Chuck was an awe-inspiring leader. He sought opportunities to help others grow, be it as a coach, a troop leader, in business, with the Masons, or just offering encouragement to a stranger on the street. The charisma and kindness he showed others set an example that will carry on for generations to come.

Family and friends are welcome to pay respects from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, April 29, 2022 at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc. 1032 Perry Hwy. Pittsburgh, PA 15237. He will be interred at Allegheny Cemetery on Butler Street following a brief service at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Animal Friends.
