Obituary for LOIS RUTH BERNDT

Lois Ruth Berndt, 99, was born August 21, 1922, to Mabel (Martin) and Charles Summers in Mercer, Missouri. She went to be with the Lord our savior on Thursday, November 18, 2021, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lois was a loving and faithful servant of God since accepting Christ at the age of 14 at a Pentecostal Church in Lineville, Iowa. Lois graduated from Mercer High School in 1939. She then attended Spencer Business College for Secretarial Correspondence. She worked as a clerk/typist for the Kodak Processing Plant and Home Mutual Insurance Company in Des Moines, IA.

On June 10, 1945 she was united in marriage to William Berndt. To this union two children were born. After raising her children, Lois went back to work part time as a secretarial assistant at the Iowa Methodist Headquarters, until her retirement in 1983.

Lois loved spending time with her family and was very involved with church activities. She enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, she was a wonderful cook and did lots of canning, as well as spending time doing crafts and needlework.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for many years and a loyal member of Staves United Methodist Church in Des Moines, IA since joining in 1995.

She is survived by her son, Russell (Julie) Berndt of Cary, North Carolina and son in law, David Fitzpatrick of Sierra Vista, Arizona; her grandchildren, Nigel (Teresa) Berndt of Seattle, WA, Ryan (Amanda) Fitzpatrick of Sierra Vista, AZ, Aubri (Lauren) Robertson of Seattle, WA, and Nilsson (Rachel) Berndt of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by, her daughter, Wanda Fitzpatrick in 1986 and her husband, William Berndt in 2009.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Staves Memorial United Methodist Church 2747 E Madison Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 AM Tuesday, until service time. Lois will be buried next to her loving husband at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Staves Memorial United Methodist Church in loving memory of Lois.
