Obituary for Russell J McCready

Russell J. McCready, 52, passed away Nov. 18 in San Diego, Calif.

A former resident of Schuylkill Haven, he was a son of the late Russell and Betty McCready.

Russ was a 1972 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School . He graduated in 1976 from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, with a bachelor's degree. He did his graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his PhD in Organic Chemistry. He went on to post-doctoral work at USC, Irvine, Calif. where he was a National Institute of Health finalist.

During his career, he published seven journal articles and was granted over 32 U.S. and world patents.

He was a member of the Order of DeMolay, the Elks Club and a the American Chemical and Plastic Society. He was a past member of Schuylkill Haven Rotary. He also held a private pilot license.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy McCready Gradwell.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Catherine Koperna McCready; two sons, Jeffrey McCready, Peoria, Ill., and James McCready, San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Elaine McCready Clews, Pottsville; a niece, nephews and a great-niece.
