Obituary for Harry A. Buchmann

Harry A. Buchmann, 74, of Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 42 years by his side, Sept. 4, 2021.  Harry was born in Philadelphia to the late Harry Buchmann and Doris Bready Buchmann (Hauber) on Dec. 24, 1946. 

 Growing up in Ridley Park, Harry attended Ridley High.  He was an excellent runner for the school’s cross country team and used that skill to coach his daughter’s track team many years later. Harry proudly served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era and had the utmost respect for our men and women in uniform.  After his discharge, Harry worked for Sun Oil Company for 37 years until he retired in 2009.  Harry enjoyed spending time with his family at Long Beach Island and his cabin in the Poconos. An avid history buff, he was especially interested in the Civil War.   And, by the way, he loved sharing this with anyone who would listen.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved cousin, Alice K. Lindsay and a sister-in-law, Sheila Gibson Buchmann. 

Survivors include his wife, Eileen M. Buchmann (Petzelt), who was his devoted caregiver for the past 7 months; his children, Shelly Buchmann King, Daniel (Susan), Jasen (Megan), Loren Denison (Brandon), Megan Ahles (Doug), and H. Ryan (Amy); brother Gary (Kathleen) and sister, Karen Naylor (George).  He also leaves behind a  legacy for all of his grandchildren as well - Taylor, Will, Caroline, Reese, Logan, Juliette, Jaxon, Connor and Carter. He was loved dearly by his sister- in- law, Lee Petzelt, and many other nieces and nephews. 

Harry once said, “Take a look at this FAMILY, this extended family, and realize how lucky we all are.  We love one another, we care for one another, and, to me, that’s the best thing in life.”

 A Celebration of  Harry’s Life will be held Friday, Sept. 10, at 11 am at the Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington Cemetery, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill, Pa. 19026.  Friends may gather beginning at 10am .Burial will be private.

 In lieu of flowers,  Harry had asked donations be made to the Children’s Hospital of Phila.
