Obituary for Joan Queenie Yulduzian

Joan Q. Yulduzian 1935 - 2021

Hockessin - Joan Q. Yulduzian, 85, of Hockessin, DE, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 with her loving husband, Gregory, and her devoted daughter, Joan Marie, by her side.

Joan was born in Philadelphia on July 16, 1935, the only daughter of Henry and Araxie Meterissian. She married Gregory Yulduzian, and was a dedicated homemaker and mother to their only child. She was an avid gardener, who loved flowers and was a charter member of the Country Side Garden Club. She regularly entered the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Flower Show exhibits -- many times winning blue ribbons and Best of Show! She was also an avid card player and member of several bridge clubs.

Joan was an active volunteer. She was the program chairwoman of the Wilmington Red Hats and site chairperson of Wilmington Garden Day, which benefits the charities: Friendship House and St. Michael's School and Nursery. For many years, Joan was a member of St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church, serving in pastoral care and on the altar and flower guilds. She also served as a member of the Opera Delaware Guild.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Joan is survived by her younger brother, John Meterissian, and his wife, Virginia; their only daughter, Christine Gilroy and her husband, James; and their daughters, Christina and Jaclyn.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13th at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church (2800 Duncan Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to St. Barnabas' Church or Friendship House (1503 West 13th St., Wilmington, DE 19806).
