Obituary for BILLIE DEAN WAUGH

Billie Dean Waugh, of Des Moines, IA, born in Patterson, MO (Nodaway County) passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021, at the age of 85.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie; children, Dan (Marilyn) Waugh and Vicki (John) Waugh. Also survived by grandchildren Meredith Smith, Blake Smith, Danette (YT) Sullivan, and Matt (Kristie) Waugh, along with great-grandchildren Jordan Smith, Alexandrea Parcel, Trevor Parcel, Tyler Dean, Devin Sullivan, and Tyler Rager.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil “Shorty” and Alta Mae Waugh; brother Bob and sister Betty.

Bill began his life farming and later worked as a truck driver, fabricator, and manager of Bee Square Alignment. He worked at Metro Tire prior to retiring from Murray Motors. During retirement, he worked part-time at Quick Fuel and officially retired in January 2021.

Bill’s greatest passion was Farmall antique tractors. He was a member of Central Iowa Tractors, Mid-Iowa Antique Association, and Central Hawkeye, where he was spokesman at the Iowa State Fair. Bill attended many tractor rides across Iowa and drove in all WHO tractor rides, KGLO, and every 4th of July parade in Urbandale.

Bill also enjoyed playing cribbage and solitaire, camping, and traveling with family.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 P.M., with a celebration of life service to begin at 3 P.M., on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Cremation will follow the service and a private family graveside will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials will be received by the family for a future designation in Billie’s honor.
