Obituary for Carlton C. Wolfinger

Carlton C. Wolfinger, 79, of Kutztown, died Monday, May 24, 2021 at home in the loving arms of his wife and stepson. He was the husband of Kathryn (Marshall) Landis. Born in Kutztown, Carlton was the son of Charles S. Wolfinger and Hannah (Kramer) Wolfinger.

 

In 1959, Carlton graduated from Kutztown Area High School. While attending high school, he played JV basketball and was team Captain. After graduation, Carlton joined the United States Navy and served from 1959 to 1962. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Rich DDE820 for a North American Cruise for one year and then was stationed in Germany for two years.

 

Carlton owned the Skyview Restaurant from 1976 to 1987. In the late 1980s, he received his real estate license with the John Monaghan Group and continued as a realtor for 30+ years. For many years, he also kept a stand at Renninger's Market, Kutztown, where he met with prospective real estate clients and friends.

 

Carlton enjoyed travels with Kathy to Germany, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Canadian Rocky Mountains. He was a passionate fisherman participating in many bass tournaments in the U. S. and Canada. His favorite fishing grounds were in Quebec, Canada. To many local fishermen, he was known as the "Best Dressed Fisherman."

 

Carlton was also an avid skier and instructor, competitive tennis and pickleball player. He was a member of the Berks Bassmasters, Kutztown Lions Club, U.S.S. Rich Association, Berks Ski Club, and a participant in PA Dutch classes and gatherings. Carlton was also a recent member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown.

 

In addition to his wife, Kathy, Carlton is survived by his brother, Martin C. Wolfinger, husband of Carol (Wetzel) Wolfinger; nephews, Tyler C. Wolfinger and family and Avery M. Wolfinger; aunt, Helen (Kramer) Schellenberger, wife of William Schellenberger; stepson, Steven M. Landis, and stepdaughter Alison (Landis) Stone, wife of Justin Stone.

 

 

A memorial service to celebrate and honor Carlton's life will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, 47 S. Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, PA (Parking and Entrance in Rear) with The Reverend Kim L. Adamson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.

 

A visitation will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 AM in the church.
