Obituary for Albert J Ahern

Albert Ahern (Age 95)
Died on January 2, 2021, at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he spent his early years there and later in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Northampton High School, Northampton, Massachusetts, and from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. During WWII he served in the United States Navy. After receiving his law degree from Georgetown Law School, he practiced for over forty years in the District of Columbia and Virginia. As an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown Law Center, he taught Trial Law and Evidence but preferred the courtroom to the classroom. He admired his students, most of whom held full-time jobs, for their grit and tenacity in pursuing their vocation, always grateful himself for the GI Bill that paid for his own education. He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Suzanne Manning; a sister, Loretta, of Alexandria; a son, Bill of Alexandria; and three daughters: Ellen of San Diego, California; Elizabeth of Atlanta, Georgia; and Maegan of Decatur, Georgia. He will miss his three sons-in-law: Stephen Corso, Bob Monyak and Marc Akers and his daughter-in-law Mona Miller. He will be greatly missed by his 10 grandchildren: Nolan Ahern; Jessie, Peter and Mary Corso; Suzanne, Claire, Casey and Isabelle Monyak; and Hayley and Griffin Akers. Due to the pandemic, a graveside service to celebrate Al's life will be held later in 2021. Condolences may be sent to billahern@comcast.net. In lieu of flowers, contributions to So Others May Eat (SOME), P.O. Box 96325, Washington, DC 20090, or www.some.org, will be appreciated by Al's family.
