Obituary for Sophie Zaksewicz Pigaty

Sophie Pigaty, 89, of Orange and formerly of Seymour entered into rest Monday June 23, 2008 in the Birmingham Health Care Center in Derby. She was the wife of 40 years to the late Leo Pigaty. Mrs. Pigaty was born in Ansonia November 27, 1918, daughter of the late Michael Zaksewicz and Bronisla Gruskowski Zaksewicz Karabeinikoff, and was a Seymour resident for over 50 years. Mrs. Pigaty was employed for several years at Reeds Portrait Gallery and Marshall Lane Manor in Derby, before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and loved shopping. She is the beloved mother of Lucretia Watts and her husband Bill of Apopka, FL; Lt. General (U.S.Army ret.) Leo J. Pigaty and his wife Carol of Albuquerque, NM and Robert Pigaty of New Haven. SHe is the loving sister of Agnes Montini of Derby. She is the cherished grandmother of Margaret Matthews and Maile Stoddard and also leaves four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by four brothers Stanley and Walter Zaksewicz and John and Chester Karabeinikoff and a sister Helen Hammed. A Mass of CHristian Burial will be held on Saturday in St. Mary's Church Derby. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
