Obituary for DONNA MAYE WOODY

Donna Maye Comegys Woody passed peacefully, with her boys by her side, on Thursday, December 31, 2020.

She was born to Ora and Laura Comegys on April 17, 1928. She graduated from East High School and in 1946 met the love of her life, Hugh Woody, a track star who had also graduated from East High. They married on August 20th, 1948. She worked as a waitress at Katz Drugstore, a clerk at Woolworth Dime Store and a claims adjuster at American Associated Insurance Company. She then worked alongside Hugh at Don Johnson Pharmacy and they welcomed two sons, Stephen and Matthew into their family. She later worked at Hiland Bakery for 20 years and retired in 2009.

Donna loved her family beyond words and she loved to serve the Lord. They were members of Highland Park Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church before joining Capitol Hill Lutheran Church. Donna and Hugh were both very active in Boy Scouts for 21 years and cherished many long lasting relationships with their scouts. She and Hugh loved to dance and spent hours at the Riviera and Val Air Ballrooms. She and Hugh had a passion for traveling and were able to have visited all 50 states except Delaware and Hawaii. They also drove to Alaska, Niagara Falls, Quebec and through most of Canada. They camped on most of their trips which was another joy they shared. She loved the outdoors and shared countless vacations with Hugh and the boys and their families camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing and just enjoying her time with everyone. She passed her love of the outdoors to every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She valued her time with friends and family to no end and was always so selfless and giving to everyone.

Among many who will always cherish Donna are the surviving members of her family: Sons Steve (Karen) Woody and Matt (Lynn) Woody; grandchildren Jesse Woody, Erin Schirm, Elisabeth (Jason) Brunk, and Alexa (Paul) Lemon; great-grandchildren Lilah and Harlow Dempsey and Autumn and Joselyn Brunk, Arlie Schirm, and James Lemon; sister Jean Alderman; and a host of loving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Woody; sister, Joann; brothers Charles, James and Richard.

Donna will be so greatly missed and her memories will always bring smiles to those that knew her. There is comfort in knowing she is with the Lord and reunited with the love of her life, Hugh and family members that she missed dearly. Her Light will always shine bright.
