Obituary for Curt A. Scheibner

Curt A. Scheibnr, formerly of Shelton, died on September 8, 2005 at West Hartford after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Helen Klapik Scheibner. Born June 3, 1919, at his longtime home on Kneen Street, where he lived for 83 years, Curt was the son of the late Gustav and Lina Koehler Scheibner. He attended Shelton public schools and transferred to Bridgeport Trade School, graduating as a draaftsman in 1937. He studied at Bridgeport Engineering Institute and worked at Coulter & McKenzie Machine Co. in Bridgeport for 44 years, retiring as a machine design engineer in 1981. A Navy vetran, he served in World War II in the South Pacific at Naval Advanced Base 140 in the New Hebrides Islands. A member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shelton, Curt served on the council for many years. He was also a member of the property and worship and music committees, an assistant to the pastor, an usher and a member of the choir. Curt was a true Renaissance man who thrived onthe many good things life has to offer. He loved reading, writing, drawing, traveling, the arts and music especially opera and the classics. A talented photographer, he beautifully recorded the many places and lives that touched his own. He enjoyed working with his hands, skillfully designing and building many wonderful things for everyne who could use a certain something to fill a need. Curt was a caring and giving person who enjoyed people. He loved hearing about their lives and exchanging stories about the past, while he also sought to learn ever more about the world and see the wonders of the future unfold. He inspired us all to appreciate the multitude of riches life has to offer. Curt was a devoted husband of 60 years to Helen Klapik Scheibner; and loving father of two children George Scheibner of Wilmington, N.C. and Irene Scheibner of West Hartford. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Scheibner; two sisters, Clara Scheibner and Ann Jungdahl; and a niece, Jeanne Crompton. A funeral service will be held in Trinity Lutheran Church, Shelton on Monday September 12th. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery Ansonia.
