Obituary for Harry Ireland

Harry Ireland, 77, died at Griffin Hospital June 24, 1970. He was the husband of Jessie Ogden Ireland of 30 Hull St. Ansonia. He was born on February 25, 1893 in Cold Spring, NY and was the son of the late Abraham & Elizabeth Haight Ireland. He moved to Ansonia at the age of 18. Mr. Ireland retired for 12 years was a crane operator for Anaconda American Brass Co. in Ansonia. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary the day he died. Hewas a WWI veteran and member of the Ancient Order of Foresters, the Gordon-Viselli Post of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church in Ansonia. He was also a member of the state of CT Yankee Division. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons: William E. of Ansonia, Harry A. of Montgomery, AL; three daughters: Frances Ballantyne, Betty Carney both of Ansonia and Marjorie Hulstrunk of Northford; a brother Edward of Ansonia, a sister Mrs. Roy Jackson of Poughkeepsie, NY, 12 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Jenkins Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia with the Rev. Donald L. Lawrence, pastor of the Ansonia First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
