Obituary for John H. Boland

John H. Boland, son of John James Boland and Edith Welton Boland, moved on to a better fishing hole on Saturday December 13, 2008. He was 83 years old. Born on March 8, 1925 in Derby, he graduated from Ansonia High School in 1942. After graduation John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably for the duration of World War II in the Pacific Theater Fleet Air Wing Two. In June of 1945, John married his high school sweetheart, Anna Theresa DiPiro and together they raised their four children, John L. Boland, Kathleen B. Sobolewski, Susan B. Shepherd and Thomas P. Boland. After the war John achieved a college degree from New Haven College in mechanical engineering, a profession h e racticed at Uniroyal Rubber Co. for many years and at Seal Products of Naugatuck until he retired. John was an active and longstanding member of VFW Post 597, serving the last 63 years as post commander and numerous other post officer positions. He was also a former school board chairman in Ansonia. John and Anna were together for 53 years. Anna passed away in 1998. He is survived by four children; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; his sister Carol Pagliaro and her husband Peter, his sister Mary Casalveri and his brother-in-law Jospeh DiPiro. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the Church of the Assumption, Ansonia. Burial with full military honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. The Bennett Funeral Home, Ansonia is entrusted with the arrangements.
