Obituary for Richard Daniel Barrera

 Richard Daniel Barrera was born in Cuenca, Ecuador on November 22, 1923. For 66 years he was the loving husband and partner of Martha Brouwer Barrera. They met in New York and lived in New York, Ecuador, and eventually settled in Alexandria, Virginia. He was the very proud father of Susan Fay, Laura Scannell, Ricardo Barrera, Daniel Barrera and Peter Barrera, and the even prouder grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is survived as well by his sisters Ofelia and Olga, and his brother Rodrigo and a large family of nieces, nephews and cousins living in Ecuador. He lived for his family and will always be cherished. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 4-7 at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital or The American Diabetes Association.

A Requiem Mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at St. Louis Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, Virginia 22306.
