Herminigildo Q. Cordenillo

13 April 1937 to 29 July 2020

Hildo, as he was known to loved ones, passed away in San Francisco on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. He was 83 years old. Hildo’s ailments brought on by aging were manageable and pain-free until a diagnosis of renal cancer in May was the added battle his body could no longer defend against.

Hildo is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Josephine Reyes Cordenillo and their son Ariel Cordenillo (Maria Victoria), daughter Sarah Jane Cordenillo (Daniel Brugmann), grandchildren Amanda Moyrong (Fernand Regalado), Timothy Moyrong, Mariel Cordenillo, and Ariel Cordenillo, Jr. Hildo was also blessed with great-granddaughters, Isabella, Macy and Ivy Regalado.

Hildo and Josephine came to the United States in 1968 from their hometown of Cavite, Philippines, with two toddlers in tow. They settled in San Francisco and raised their young family amongst a support system of relatives, friends, colleagues, and a vibrant church family. Once becoming retirees of St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Laguna Honda Hospital, Hildo and Josephine were empty nesters and continued their retirement years by moving to South San Francisco. There Hildo was surrounded by caring neighbors & friends, and a close-nit, joyful spiritual family at Alta Vista Church of Christ where Hildo and Josephine have been members for over 40 years.

The Cordenillo family would like to thank Dr. Silvia Yuen and the other doctors and medical staff at Sutter Health CPMC Home Care and ICU for their gracious and compassionate care of Hildo. Round the clock care included nurses humming and swaying to the soft 50’s ballads playing to soothe and promote healing during procedures and times of pain & discomfort. When his illness was slowly taking him away from this earth, Hildo was able to express pleasure at the familiar melodies by smiling at the nurses who were finding joy in ‘his’ music too.

The family regrets that only a private memorial can be held at Cypress Lawn in Colma, California due to these unprecedented times.

If considering expressions of sympathy or in lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts be made in Herminigildo Cordenillo’s memory to Alta Vista Church of Christ in South San Francisco in order to help continue the Lord’s work in their community and abroad.
